SHOW SUMMARY

A Night Calgary Theatre Lovers Can’t Miss

StoryBook Theatre proudly presents its highly-anticipated annual fundraiser: MisCAST — an unforgettable celebration of Broadway show tunes, local talent, and theatrical surprises. For one extraordinary evening, more than 40 professional and emerging artists take the stage in roles they’d never traditionally play, delivering bold, reimagined performances of musical theatre’s most beloved hits.

Since its debut in 2018, MisCAST has become a must-see event for Calgary’s theatre community, drawing crowds eager for a night of creativity, inclusion, and entertainment. But beyond the standing ovations, this one-night-only performance raises vital funds for the Ellie Tims Project — StoryBook Theatre’s initiative to ensure theatre education remains accessible to all Calgarians, regardless of financial circumstances.

Every ticket supports scholarships and bursaries for deserving students in SBT’s Theatre School Programming, continuing our mission to “Never say no to a child.”

With mature themes and language (recommended 12+), MisCAST offers a fresh, edgy twist to the family-friendly storytelling SBT is known for. Join us for a night that celebrates the transformative power of theatre, the joy of performance, and a community united by the belief that the arts should belong to everyone.

Immediately following MisCAST 2025 - StoryBook Theatre will announce its 49th Season of shows!

Those who attend the April 25th performance will be the first to learn StoryBook Theatre’s upcoming season of shows for the entire family. Season 49 will continue SBT’s tradition of presenting some of the brightest emerging talents from the industry, both on and off the stage, creating incredibly accessible theatre for the whole family. Our seasons of extraordinary productions will be announced, which include beloved classics and new musicals for audiences of all ages!

DIRECTOR'S NOTES

FROM THE
ARTISTIC PRODUCER

Each year, MisCAST arrives like a jolt of energy—equal parts celebration, rebellion, and love letter to the theatre community. For one extraordinary night, we get to throw out the rulebook and ask, “What if?” What if performers stepped into roles they’ve only dreamed of? What if we saw our favourite songs through a completely new lens? The result is often hilarious, sometimes deeply moving, and always inspiring. Watching over 40 artists take the stage—some seasoned pros, others emerging voices—reminds me just how much talent, bravery, and generosity exists in our city.

Producing MisCAST is unlike anything else we do at StoryBook. It’s a logistical puzzle, an artistic experiment, and a heartfelt fundraiser all wrapped into one unforgettable evening. But more than anything, it’s a showcase of possibility—proof that when barriers are removed, creativity flourishes. And that philosophy lies at the heart of why we do this: to ensure that every child, regardless of financial circumstance, has the chance to be part of that creative world. The funds raised through MisCAST go directly to the Ellie Tims Project, helping us keep our promise to never say no to a child who wants to explore theatre.

What makes the night even more exciting is that we get to end it with a glimpse into the future. Revealing our upcoming season in that charged, joy-filled room always gives me goosebumps. It’s a moment of shared anticipation—a chance to say, “Here’s what we’re dreaming up next.” Season 49 is about heart, courage, and the quiet moments of bravery that shape the most powerful stories. It’s a season that dares us to lean into what’s possible, both onstage and off. And there’s no better audience to share that vision with than the one that gathers for MisCAST—an audience of dreamers, believers, and fierce supporters of what theatre can do.

Thank you for being part of this journey. I hope you leave the evening feeling inspired, connected, and just a little braver.
